This is a perfect size for large batches of batter, pie filling, or dough. Good balance and weight distribution provide stability during mixing, and the shallow, roomy interior allows for good mixing "action". Thick rim gives a firm grip. White interior makes it easy to see contents and makes it easier to clean. I purchased this as a replacement for a much heavier Roseville, Ohio Pottery bowl that I had for 20 years which fell and broke. I was disappointed that the Roseville bowls were no longer available, and looked high and low for something similar. I finally found this one, and, after getting used to the lighter weight, I think it's a superior product as the Roseville bowl lacked all of the above characteristics. If you do large quantity baking or cooking, this bowl is indispensable.

These are terrific bowls. I had a 20 year old one handed down from my mother but unfortunately I dropped it. Having never found a bowl I liked quite as much I decided to order myself a new one. Despite being more pricey, in my opinion, the classic design is worth the extra. When I received my bowl, it had been rather poorly packaged and was quite smashed. Requesting a replacement was simple and the new bowl arrived a few days later and was frankly over-packaged but in one piece. Since the packaging is all recyclable I don't feel too badly and I'm happy with my new Mason-Cash bowl. Hopefully I will pass it down to my daughter-in-law in 20 years when one of my boys gets married.

These are not the same mixing bowls that were produced prior to the sale and acquisition of Mason Cash in 2004-2007. The older bowls, which both my mother had in the '70s/'80s and I purchased from Sur La Table in the early 2000s, were thicker and of a better quality. These are thinner and lighter in weight with a more pronounced cane pattern and a whiter interior. Disappointing. Wish I had stocked up on the old ones.
