Whenever purchasing kitchenware, I do my utmost to stay away from plastic, heavy metals or anything else linked to health problems. I do this because my oldest child is on the autism spectrum and many researcher speculate that BPA, Teflon, mercury, lead etc. are linked to the resent explosion of autism spectrum disorders. Reading in the description that these are free of lead and cadmium made me decide on this particular set. I also hoped, given that description, that the bowls would have be manufactured in the US (I really wish Amazon would include the location of manufacture in the item description information). Alas, when I received the bowls they are clearly marked "Made in China." I like the claim that these bowls are free of lead and cadmium but I cannot entirely trust that claim given all the problems with lead in children's toys coming out of China, toys that were supposedly lead free. However, they are attractive bowls, the largest is what I would consider to be about the size of a medium sized mixing bowl.

I like the environmentally-friendlier idea of these bowls. However, they really are small. They don't work as mixing bowls for me. Of course, their volumes are listed on the site and I really wish I would have gone to the kitchen and figured out what 2.5 cups looks like as a bowl before I ordered these. They did arrive intact.

I ordered these mixing bowls for my wife. The large mixing bowl arrived broken and I suspect it was broken during shipping. Contacted Amazon and a new set was sent out with no questions asked. They did not even require I send back the broken set. The new set came in perfect condition and we are very happy with them! We are very pleased the way Amazon handled our problem.
